Government Needs To Provide Not The Private Sector

How do you make a bad economic situation worse? You leave it up to politicians to solve.

From Washington DC to state capitals, the oligarchs and cronies have their hands out for government subsidies. In America, it is rarely about need. Rather, it is about who your friends are. The ordinary citizen is seated last at the national table.

It was no one’s fault that the pandemic started. America and the world had no choice but to shut down their economies. The United States, unlike most of the rest of the advanced nations, has no provisions to provide for the welfare of individuals and families. While other nations are concentrating on citizens first, we have decided to subsidize any business that can make itself heard in the halls of congress or state legislatures.

We should have in place social safety programs for citizens. Since we don’t, we find ourselves in the deplorable predicament of government mandating what the private sector must do. Today, we have a nation of people sitting home idly while the government expects private business to continue payrolls, medical benefits, and sick leave. In a time of crisis, business is least able to do this.

In the recently enacted “CARE ACT,” there are provisions to send out checks to individuals, but the overwhelming bulk of the funds designated in that legislation ends up in the pockets of favored industries and individual businesses.
