The Uniqueness Of Our Nation
The United States is a unique nation. What binds us together is not ethnicity or religion. An American can be an American by just pledging allegiance to the nation whether his ancestors came here on the Mayflower or the Amistad.
We are a nation that is unified by adherence to the Constitution. It is what allows Americans from hundreds of nationalities, and religions to live together. Adherence to that one document is really all we have. Those tenets expressed by its clauses protects all of us from mayhem. What else do we have that explains our national origins, but the principles espoused in that document?
Congress and the president have not upheld their responsibilities under the articles in that document. Each branch has been allowed to be more interested in political maneuvering than adhering to their responsibilities by the voters. This has caused a civic fracture that is being magnified by our current situation of economic and racial turmoil along with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Party should never matter more than our allegiance to the nation. One should choose a party because it stands for something more than a way to obtain or remain in power. Parties are a by-product of politics not mentioned anywhere in the Constitution. I believe they no longer serve their original purpose which was to organize people around similar political principles.
