Voter Fraud: Trying To Find A Problem That Doesn’t Exist

Interestingly, the absence of voter fraud has not stopped people from claiming how widespread it was. In Florida (where I live), the number of actual arrests for voter fraud can be counted in the single digits. Four people were arrested in the Villages for voting more than once, and they were Republicans or NPAs.

Mark Meadows, former head of the Tea Party, Republican congressman, and Trump’s chief of staff is being investigated in North Carolina for falsifying his residency in the state. It appears that his supposed home was an old trailer, where he never spent one night. I wonder if anyone checked Rudy’s address?

The Democrats attempted to register dead people in Broward County but that is a time-honored tradition of the party. None of those dead people cast a ballot of any sort in the election. If this was 1950, then indeed there could have been stuffing of the ballot box. The closest thing today to ballot boxes are drop off boxes which were closely supervised during the last election and will be closely supervised in the next election as well.

The 2020 election had nearly 160 million votes cast, and any voter fraud that was detected wouldn’t have made a difference in the outcome in any state. There were less than 500 votes that were found in the 6 contested states that could have been labeled suspicious. Trump opened the rabbit hole, and his followers went down it without any critical thinking about the outlandish lie perpetrated that the election had been rigged and stolen. Audit upon audit conducted by even supposed experts like Cyber Ninjas found not one additional vote for Trump.

To believe Trump’s assertions would mean that, in state after state, thousands of voting officials both Democrats and Republicans would have had to be in cahoots to steal the election for Biden. Further, the Republicans picked up seats and won races in these battleground states. Many voters were not looking to oust Republicans…they only wanted Trump to go.

Governor DeSantis and the Florida Legislature just closed the session by passing bills that Floridians didn’t want. DeSantis started out as a true conservative who subsequently decided he wanted to run for president. The crowning glory in this session is the creation of an election fraud police force that reports to the executive branch. It is sheer lunacy and a waste of taxpayer dollars.

I believe Florida had a great voting system. It had really cleaned up its act after the Bush/Gore debacle of 20 years ago. Early voting and the ease of vote by mail has had the effect of more people exercising their franchise. Seniors and the infirmed could cast their ballots without standing in long lines. Many in this category both Democrats and Republicans are not able to stand in line to vote.

When people say that everyone cast their ballots only on election day in days past, they are right. And it was doable then. Our population was smaller than today. There were far fewer families in which all the voters work so that most people must vote only before or after work causing poll congestion. People are living significantly longer and often with more limited physical ability to get to the polls personally. Shouldn’t we be increasing the ability to vote and not limiting it? I guess it depends if you buy into the absurdities or not.

If someone commits voter fraud, even Mark Meadows, he should be prosecuted. The miniscule number of voter fraud cases does not justify the response that we are seeing in Florida and elsewhere. When you take away someone’s right to vote, you are depriving them of citizenship. That is a dangerous precedent.
